Levonorgestrel (a.k.a Plan B)

This pill works best the sooner you take it. You want to take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex but it can offer some benefit if taken up to 5 days after. You can start ongoing hormonal birth control right away.

Note: You do not need a prescription for this medication. If you think you need it and cannot see us right away, do not delay and talk to a pharmacist!

Copper IUD

This is the most effective form of emergency contraception. It can be placed within 7 days of unprotected sex and will work as a great form of ongoing contraception. Weight does not affect this form of contraception, therefore it is a great option if you're overweight. There are other pros/cons to this option which will be reviewed at your appointment.
